Today’s Top Story: NOAA Officially Closes Scallop Fishery in Northern Gulf of Maine

In our top story today, NOAA Fisheries closed the Northern Gulf of Maine (NGOM) Scallop Management Area on April 11 for the first time in more than 15 years, prohibiting all scallop vessels fishing under federal scallop regulations from fishing for, possessing, or landing scallops in or around the designated area. Per federal scallop regulations, NOAA is required to close areas projected to reach 100% of the annual NGOM Set-Aside, or until the final seasonal specifications are approved...
