Concern for Whales as Northern California Crab Season Opens

The commercial Dungeness crab season is finally open in Northern California. Domoic acid and low meat recovery percentages resulted in the season being delayed, but fishermen were able to throw their nets in the water over the weekend. However, now there are concerns over whale entanglement.
On Friday the Center for Biological Diversity issued a warning about the dangers that traps pose to whales, sea turtles and other wildlife.
