Saemark’s Owner Bjornsson Caught in Tax Fraud by Iceland Authorities; Raids on both Home and Office

Sigurdur Gisli Bjornsson, CEO and owner of the seafood exporter Saemark was implicated in a possible multi-million dollar tax fraud, exposed to prosecutors through the publication of the “Panama Papers.”
According to a report in Frettabladid, officers of the Tax inspectorate searched Bjornsson’s home, and tax authorities seized his property and bank accounts.
Saemark is an Icelandic fish trading company, that was reported to have a turnover of $7.8 million and retained earnings of $5 million, according to Frettabladid. The net income was reported as $280,000 in 2016.
The Icelandic district attorney’s office has been investigating this matter since 2016..
