The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality released a draft of a purposed permit on Monday that, if passed, would regulate wastewater discharges from seafood processing facilities in Oregon.Known as a 900-J National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System general permit, the purposed permit will replace a previous version that expired in 2011.
DEQ will be accepting public comments on the proposed permit until 5 p.m. on March 29. Three public hearings will also held along the coast. The first will be in Newport , at 5:30 p.m., March 14, The next day, at 5:30 p.m. March 15, Coos Bay will have its public hearing. Then, finally Astoria will have a hearing a few days later at 5:30 p.m. March, 19.
