FDA Changes Name: Brown King Crab Now Officially Golden King Crab

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) replaced the common or usual name for ‘‘brown king crabmeat’’ with ‘‘golden king crabmeat’’ in a Federal Register final rule yesterday.

FDA took the action a year after the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017 (Pub. L. 115– 31), was signed into law on May 5, 2017.  

The rule is effective May 3, 2018. The compliance date for this rule is January 1, 2020. Any adjustments to a product’s labeling much occur by ...
