Early Indications Show Alaska’s Salmon Season Off to a Slow Start

Excluding chum salmon, the weekly harvest summary put out by the McDowell Group and the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute show harvests far below levels from one year ago at this time.
Overall, total harvest of about 2.6 million salmon is 45 percent lower than last year, including adjustments for pinks.
Breaking it down by species, the report notes “Through June 16th, the harvest of about 1.1 million sockeye represents a 68 percent reduction from the same time in 2017 ...
