World’s First Sustainable Sea Cucumber Fishery is MSC Certified in Western Australia
Western Australia’s sea cucumber fishery has become the world’s first sustainably certified sea cucumber fishery through the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). Tasmanian Seafoods, based in Smithton, Tasmania, will harvest, process, and ship the sea cucumbers now with the familiar blue checkmark logo to Singapore, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan Province.
Market demand for the world’s sea cucumber, prized by Chinese and Southeast Asian consumers, is growing worlwide, triggering concern about the sustainability of the fisheries.
