Fines Issued for Commercial Violation of Federal Halibut Act in Alaska
A Wrangell, Alaska commercial halibut quota holder and small processor were fined $17,600 for not reporting 600 pounds of retained halibut catch, during the season that closed last month.
The Alaska Division of NOAA’s Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) in Petersburg, AK investigated the allegations and learned that Silvia Ettefagh of Wrangell, Alaska, and Sylver Fishing Company, also based in Wrangell, failed to offload and report all Pacific halibut caught on an Individual Fishing Quota (IFQ) fishing trip.
