NOAA Confirms First North Atlantic Right Whale Death in U.S. Waters in 2021
On Sunday, February 14, NOAA confirmed the first observed North Atlantic right whale death is U.S. waters in 2021.
The whale, which is suspected to be the calf of a 19-year-old female named Infinity (#3230), was first sighted on January 17, 2021 off Amelia Island, Florida. According to Georgia DNR’s Wildlife Resources Division, the calf was Infinity’s first, at the time bringing the total of new whales this season to 12.
