ASP Says DFO’s Most Recent Stock Assessment For Capelin Supports Fishery
The Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) is chiming in after conservation groups called for a moratorium on capelin earlier this week.
As previously reported, World Wildlife Fund-Canada is “calling for a halt to the commercial capelin fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador.” Looking at the DFO’s 2020 assessment, which put capelin at just 4% of its levels in the 1990s, WWF-Canada believes that fishermen should cease fishing for capelin immediately.
