NPD: Restaurant Traffic Dips in Q1 Amidst Various Headwinds

Consumer visits to U.S. restaurants dropped in the first quarter of 2022 as high food and energy prices impacted foot traffic, according to The NPD Group.
Challenged by these headwinds and compared to a 3% gain in last year’s first quarter, online and physical restaurant visits declined by 2% in the first quarter of 2022 versus a year ago and increased by 1% from the first calendar quarter of 2020 when the pandemic began, NPD reported.
