Bakkafrost to Build New Smolt Facility; Company Not Satisfied with Q3 Farming Results
Faroe Islands-based salmon farmer Bakkafrost announced its plans to build a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) smolt hatchery in Skálavík, Faroe Islands. The company said the new facility will have a capacity of 28,600 m3 and is expected to be up and running in late 2026.
The annual production will be around 6.5 million smolt of 500g. Once the Skálavík hatchery is completed, Bakkafrost’s annual smolt production capacity will be in excess of 24 million smolt of 500g, the company shared in a news release...
