At around 4:10 pm on New Year's Day, an earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 7 was observed in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture. A tsunami caused significant damage to fishing ports, vessels, seafood processing plants, and other fishing-related facilities in the Noto Peninsula of the prefecture and other parts of the Hokuriku region.
