1 Dead, 3 Injured in Remote Kodiak Island Fire, Coast Guard Says

KODIAK, Alaska — Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrews, Alaska State Troopers and the crew of the good Samaritan fishing vessel Alaskan responded to a fire at the Park's Cannery in southern Uyak Bay on Kodiak Island, Alaska, Thursday.
The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted three survivors with burn injuries and transported them to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center. In addition to the three injured, there was one confirmed fatality.
The fire began at 4:09 a.m. yesterday at a former cannery that now operates as Spirit of Alaska, a remote wilderness lodge. The fire was extinguished before noon and damaged a section of the large facility. The cause of the fire and extent of the damage is unknown at this time.
The fishing vessel Alaskan transported the survivors from the cannery site at Uyak Bay south to the village of Larsen Bay...
