Canada, France Come to Terms on Atlantic Halibut Quotas
Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Canada announced that it had reached a new agreement with France (regarding St. Pierre and Miquelon) on a sharing arrangement of Atlantic halibut quotas.
The announcement was made by Canada’s Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier. The deal was inked on September 20 and will allow French harvesters from St. Pierre and Miquelon to catch 3 percent of the total allowable catch set by Canada.
