Sargassum Bloom in Florida Killing Marine Life
Sargassum seaweed was once considered to be a "critical ecosystem for oceanic species," however, the recent surge is beginning to kill marine life in Florida.
According to Keys News, eels, parrotfish, snapper and other species have "fell victim to fatal oxygen depletion" due to the thick sargassum seaweed lining the Florida shores. And there might not be an end in sight. Last year the amount of sargassum seaweed broke a record that was previously set in 2015.
