Alaskan Vessel Operator Hit with Illegal Trawling Charges Near Kodiak
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) announced that the State of Alaska filed criminal misdemeanor charges on May 12 against a vessel operator for using non-pelagic trawl gear within the Kodiak, Alaska, groundfish registration area.
The Coast Guard said the gear used in the area had attached to it chafing gear and chain rib lines suitable for fishing in contact with the seabed, all devices not authorized for legal pelagic trawl gear.
