Russia is eyeing a further increase of catch of Pacific herring in years to come, thanks to its high popularity among local customers and rich traditions of consumption.
Russia already has the status of the world’s largest producer of Pacific herring. According to data from the All-Russian Association of Fisheries (VARPE) in 2023, its catch amounted to 396,100 tons. This year 123,600 tons were already caught (+38% year-on-year).
