Maruko Shoji, based in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, processes and sells whale meat products. According to a report by Minato Shimbun, the company filed for bankruptcy proceedings on July 19 at the Shimonoseki branch of the Yamaguchi District Court. The company has decided to give up on continuing its business as it has been unable to improve its insolvency situation.
