Entangled Humpback Whale Rescued Off Alaska Coast Ahead of Thanksgiving
NOAA Fisheries’ Alaska Regional Office is reporting that an entangled humpback whale was rescued near Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, ahead of Thanksgiving.
The entanglement was first reported on Tuesday by Scott Van Valin, owner of Island Air Express and El Capitan Lodge. Van Valin contacted the NOAA Fisheries office to report a “possibly life-threatening entanglement,” and Dr. Fred Sharpe of the Alaska Whale Foundation was flown to the scene on Wednesday to assess the situation.
