Herring fishing in the Sea of Japan off the coast of Hokkaido is currently sluggish. According to the Hokkaido Fisheries and Forestry Department, the total catch as of February 20, mainly in the Shiribeshi, Ishikari, and Rumoi areas, was 1,115 tons, down 45% from last year.
