DFO Decision Ends Four Year Allocation Uncertainty on Atlantic Surf Clams for Clearwater’s Owners
Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Joyce Murray put an end to a four-and-a-half-year review of the Atlantic surf clam fishery yesterday with a decision to drop their pursuit of a fourth license holder in the fishery. The decision effectively announced the government’s success at increasing indigenous access to an historical fishery that included the sale of Clearwater Seafoods to partnership between Premium Brands of British Columbia and a coalition of Mi'kmaw First Nations last year.
