Additional Gulf of St. Lawrence Grid Closures Named As Snow Crab Harvesters Land 95% of Quota
Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced additional temporary grid closures in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on Tuesday.
The DFO has been implementing grid closures as one of their measures to protect endangered North Atlantic right whales (NARW) when they are in Canadian waters. When a whale is spotted or acoustically detected in an area, temporary grid closures are issued, requiring harvesters to remove any gear that they might have within those grids.
