NMFS Closes Area in Southern California Bight For Large-Mesh Drift Gillnet Gear
With El Niño conditions occurring off the coast of southern California, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has published a temporary in-season rule to prohibit fishing with large-mesh drift gillnet gear in the Pacific Loggerhead Conservation Area in the Southern California Bight. The rule is in place from June 1, 2024 through August 31, 2024.
