Bob Simon Winds Down Nova Fisheries, Pioneer in Weathervane Scallops and Argentine King Crab

Bob Simon, who founded Nova Fisheries in 1985, and moved the company to Seattle shortly thereafter, announced that the company was ceasing its involvement in fisheries direct production operations, although it would continue with some of its sales operations. 'A sunset', one customer called it.
Nova was a small company that worked to develop new fisheries and invested in fishing technology and gear, and commodity processing both in Alaska and in the Canadian Maritimes.
One of their successes was the development of the Alaska Weathervane Scallop fishery. Nova's Blair Culter worked for 23 years to define and develop this fishery. Although a small volume fishery, Alaska's weathervane scallops were among the highest prices scallops world wide.
Bob Simon defended the use of dry scallops, and in both the weathervane and his Atlantic Canadian scallops avoided the use of soaking to increase weight.
Nova fisheries also was involved in the early development of the Argentine Southern Red King crab fishery.
