Third North Atlantic Right Whale Death Recorded This Year
Another North Atlantic right whale (NARW) has been found dead, marking the third recorded death in 2024.
North Atlantic right whales are endangered, with NOAA estimating that less than 360 remain. An Unusual Mortality Event for the whales was declared in 2017 when a total of 35 NARW were documented as either dead, suffering from a serious injury, or suffering from a sublethal injury or illness.
